Presently, after thirty three years since the accident occurred and after a very long period of silence, Álvaro and Coche are offering lectures under the title: “¡It is possible! ¡It depends on us!”

They transmit a very intimate and human vision, of how they managed to go onward during the 72 days they were in The Andes mountain range overcoming the most difficult conditions they could have ever imagined.

Also, they talk about team work, faith, align and focus on specific objectives, hope, the taking of critical decisions during critical situations, leadership, roles and many other things which made possible what almost no one believed possible.

They give us a different and moving vision of an extreme episode and of what they required of them to survive. Their intention, by sharing with others what they had to live through, is to motivate other people, as their experience can be applied in many ways, in personal lives or as an improvement in Company spirit.

 

First approach to the story of the accident and the survivors through the video “The mountain tells us,” which lasts ten minutes.

Brief introduction about who traveled in the airplane toward Chile , the different profiles of the survivors and who were Álvaro and José Luis before the accident. The construction of a team and the need to assign roles according to the different personalities and physical possibilities of the survivors.

Account of the sequence of events, which formed the history of the 72 days, described by two of the survivors expressed in a unique and warm point of view. They recover anecdotes, experiences, decisions, moments and crucial situations which made possible that this group of sixteen young men to continue living, throughout the chronicle.

The last section of the presentation describes the preparation and sacrifices each survivor had to make in pursuit of a common aim: to struggle out of the mountain range. This topic emphasizes the vital importance of the role that motivation and hope played. They also talk about the significance and meaning of “returning to life” represented to them.
